Success as a musician.
The principles of success are in all things. If we look hard enough.
If we look at how this relates to our progression as musicians. This might look like consistency in your habit to sit down and practice. We know that to be successful at something you must do that thing, and often.
This looks like practicing everyday.
At first don’t worry so much about what exactly you’re going to do in that practice session. Have a vague idea of what you need to practice and just begin. The structure of your practice will improve with consistency. But first you need to develop the habit.
We often plan to practice and then get stuck on how specific and structured that practice needs to be. And this scares us off from actually just practicing. In the process of obsessing over the small details we become distracted and uncomfortable as the task seems a lot more complex than it needs to be. This scares us out of practice.
I’m not saying our practice doesn’t need to become more structured and disciplined over time. Because that will naturally happen as we become more consistent with just sitting down and practicing over time.
